We had a problem with our shed workshop flat felt roof leaking and needed a quick repair.

Use hammer claws to help remove all nails from the shingles over the hole. Screw the batten in place nailing may dislodge tiles. You might find holes left over from a satellite dish or antenna mounting brackets or just about anything. Many roofs function quite well without any roofing felt so small tears and damage to roofing felt are not in themselves reasons to spend money on repairing it.

Where wind driven rain is working under the roof and causing leaks then the felt will need to be replaced. Alternately get more roofing felt and a tube of roofing caulk and glue felt patches over the rips with the caulk. Make sure the caulk is rated for the temperatures and apply it liberally so you don t create a water pocket. Tiny holes in shingles are sneaky because they can cause rot a leaky roof and other damage for years before you notice the obvious signs of a leak. Slip a pry bar under the shingles above the affected area to pull out the nails holding the damaged shingles. Take up the shingles over the hole.
